Unpopular opinion, I know.
Let’s be real— drama is already everywhere. Open Google, Instagram, TikTok and stay there for just one minute. Drama, baby. I won’t lie, when a hyped, very public couple, beautiful and seemingly perfect, suddenly splits up, my nervous system also wants to analyse every word, scan their latest stories and comments for the why and instantly find a solid reason. There’s nothing wrong with that — simple curiosity paired with the fear of missing out. My guilty pleasure.
Which is exactly why I love reading stories that are harmless, cute and ideally a little funny too. Be honest — isn’t that refreshing? Because it’s rare, in my opinion.
A little white lie? Sure. A fight, a sprinkle of doubt and insecurity on top? Works for me. And for dessert — a little complicated, with a hint of back and forth? Absolutely. A perfect menu that lets me fall asleep happy and content, leaves a good feeling behind without the uncomfortable “okay that was an incredible story, but did the father really have to die?” aftertaste.
I get it — the emotional weight of a tragic twist bonds the main characters together, but the price of that lingering, undefined, dark emptiness it always leaves in me, no matter how good the rest of the story is, is just too high. A small reset does wonders. Let’s start from zero again — harmlessly drop a scoop of ice cream, take a step back and bump into someone whose eye contact immediately makes our heart skip a beat. How does that sound? To me like a relieved, slow exhale followed by a quiet “how cute.” Cringe? Maybe. Completely unrealistic because it never happens in real life? Only if we don’t read about it often enough. Life’s funnier a little cringy.
PS: Part one of my sweet mini love series about sport, love and friendship is right here. Just sayin.
